This week we have the full crew of Mind on Fire selectors fighting over the decks for some back to back to back to back to back to back carnage.

So if you want to know what’s going on in Manchester, HOIST is where to find out.

Daedelus & EMN Archimedes A/V show Feat. SZARE

Daedalus & Archimedes

Long time MOF & Hoya:Hoya visual wizard EMN has coerced LA beat magician Daedelus to the basement of Soup Kitchen for the last of the shows featuring the current incarnation of ARCHIMEDES, a moving wall of robotic mirrors synced with EMN’s hands and Daedalus’ sounds. This is your last chance to see this amazing contraption so don’t miss it!

Supporting is MOF’s very own prodigal son(s) SZARE who will be showcasing a new set, and Hoya’s Jon K doing his thang.

oh and it’s TONIGHT by the way; Doors at 9pm £7 in, no advance tickets

here’s a video snippet of what to expect… Daedelus with Archimedes in Brooklyn

Dig Deep

Today at the Nook from 2pm and the Gallery at 6pm Longshot will be taking over the monthly reggae night Dig Deep. There’s food and films at the Nook during the day and music comes from the Longshot guys and Mr Womble from 6pm at the Gallery. Support as ever comes from JJ Power and Pareesa.

All details can be found here

For this month’s Nook sessions we’ve invited along special guest Agent J to get busy on the ones and twos… J is best known for his long running Groovement radio show which regularly attracts some of the biggest names in music alongside the cream of homegrown talent. Recent guests to his show include Pete Rock, Daedelus, Mary-Anne Hobbs, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Blue Daisy, Lorn and Paper Tiger, not to mention pretty much every DJ, MC, producer, and music collective making noise in the Manchester music scene! Agent J is also the driving force behind the In The Loop clubnights, one of the main local hip-hop nights currently holding their own in the city, whose freestyle cyphers are a somewhat of a proving ground for any self-respecting Mancunian MC.

Oh and we nearly forgot to mention Agent J is a damn fine DJ with an encyclopedic knowledge of hip-hop, funk, soul, psych, electronica and much more! We’re really looking forward to seeing what he pulls out of his record bag on the night, also playing on the night will be a selection of our Neighbourhood residents.

Neko Neko Beat tape stream

Readers digest studio setup

Readers digest studio setup

Neko Neko will be streaming his new beat tape tonight@ 9pm via ustream. The stream is coming in the form of a mixdown session from his 6-track cassette tape machine and some live mpc work. The beat tape, entitled Readers digest, is project with limitations from the get go. He’s taken a box set of “utter crap” middle of the road music released by readers digest fame with the intention of making something listenable out of it.  There are self imposed rules too…

1. Samples to be used only from the records in the boxset.

2. Drum breaks are allowed to be used from other records, seeing as there are none on the boxset ones.

3. Synths can be used to make basslines and sounds but no melodies or main parts of the song can be instrument based, only samples from the boxset.

4. There are equipment limitations mainly that only analog equipment can be used, apart from mastering on the computer.

Tune in here from 9pm tonight to hear results.
