Today marks the start of Manchester’s Future Everything festival. The annual event takes part in a variety of venues across the city and is focussed on celebrating and innovating forward thinking art, music and ideas. Mind on Fire is proud to once again have a heavy involvement in the festival:

For the Friday of Future Everything festival we head into Islington Mill for a feast of visuals and turntablism, featuring DJ Cheeba (Solid Steel A/V Set), Hot Vimto (a special joint set by two of Manchester’s finest turntablists Danny Drive Thru and G Kut), Hoya Hoya’s Jonny Dub, Omas (My First Moth / Dayse& Aver) and resident Mind on Fire DJs.

DJ Cheeba

Bristol’s DJ Cheeba is the sight and sound of Solid Steel’s new school. Always on top of emer…ging software, he is at the forefront of the new breed of DJs presenting audio and visuals through turntables. Mixing, scratching, cutting and remixing sounds (and pictures) in true hip hop style.

Heady beats and blistering sounds meld with iconic music videos and obscure youtube gems as Cheeba dices and splices audio and video live on turntables and midi pads with a nod to his turntablist history and love of cut and paste music. Following the invitation to join Ninja Tune’s legendary Solid Steel Radio Show as a resident in 2010, he has spent the last couple of years self-releasing DVDs and relentlessly touring some of the most prestigious venues in the UK, all over Europe and beyond.

We are very happy that after many years of trying, Deadbeat is coming to Manchester. Playing the Opening Party of Future Everything Festival, in association with MUTEK and Mind on Fire and with support from Andy Stott and Szare, we kick off one of the best Future Everything lineups in years with a bang.

Deadbeat

Deadbeat is Scott Monteith, a long time Montrealer and recent Berlin ex-pat who has been releasing his own special blend of dub-laden, minimal electronics since 2000, for labels such as Cynosure, Musique Risquée, Scape, and Spectral. His work has received consistent acclaim from the industry’s leading publications and websites, and has drawn regular performance invitations for some of the world’s most respected festivals, including Barcelona’s Sonar, Berlin’s Transmediale, and Montreal’s own MUTEK. Whether crafting kaleidoscopic house and techno, snap-clap digital dancehall, or impossibly heavy dub, Scott continues to search for his own unique voice between the ones and zeros.

Dubkasm in Manchester on Good Friday

On Friday 6th April we are teaming up with DUB SMUGGLERS & RED EYE HIFI to bring one of the biggest acts in UK reggae, bristol’s own DUBKASM, as they come to play Manchester for the first time. Dubkasm are comprised of childhood friends Digistep and DJ Stryda, who kicked off their dub project in the mid-’90s before going on to launch their Sufferah’s Choice label in 2003 in order to showcase their studio productions. Their 2009 debut album ‘Transform I’ was a culmination of their work so far, collecting tracks from their previous 12-inches and including vocal turns from Dub Judah, Levi Roots and Afrikan Simba. A dub version of the entire record along with a remix CD completed the Transform I Trilogy in 2010. Support on the night comes from Dub Smugglers, Red Eye and MOF DJs. A Manchester debut from IconAclass (featuring Will from seminal experimental hip hop act Dälek) tops off an evening which also sees sets from Dayse & Aver’s new live band, Neko Neko featuring Najia Bagi, Vieka, Bug & Leaf, and DJs from In The Loop, Mind on Fire and Fat Out.
