Manchester favourites, Caulbearers bring their incendiary live show to Islington Mill for the launch of their much anticipated debut EP, ‘More Lie Deep’.

With a growing reputation among critics and audiences alike, Caulbearers showcase a heady mix of archaic funk fables and soul migrations.

Mixing uplifting, celebratory music with moments of dark introspection, this eight-piece heavy-groove orchestra bring an intensity that charges the room. The band’s lead vocalists reflect this duality, with the soulful passion of Julie E Gordon (Happy Mondays) contrasting the biting fury of founder, Damien Mahoney.

‘More Lie Deep’ is a four track EP encompassing studio and live performance, produced by Damien Mahoney and mixed by Seadna McPhail (Badly Drawn Boy, Everything Everything, Jah Wobble)

Expect a fiery, euphoric atmosphere at this unique live event – not to be missed.

Caulbearers include founder members of Single Cell, a collective of Manchester-based musicians, film-makers, artists and activists.

Support comes courtesy of the brilliant Mind On Fire Band and slam poet champion Ben Mellor.

DJ King Spinna is none other than legendary Blood and Fire selector Dom, who is joined on the decks by Joe Sope (Herbal Sessions) and Defunkles (Single Cell).

All New Downloads and Mix

If you came to see Onra and Martyn at Mint Lounge a few weeks back, those of you with an inquisitive ear will have noticed that there were a few other folk on the bill that were worth the entrance fee alone. Amongst these were Synkro and Caulbearers who both absolutely smashed it in their own rights.

Synkro is known for his tight, bass heavy, garage influenced productions but the track featured here Winter is a bit of a departure from that sound. Exclusive to www.mindonfire.co.uk “Winter” is a melancholic beat just in time for summer :)

Caulbearers are on the other side of the spectrum here. A 10 piece live funk band from Single Cell Collective playing raw, passionate funk music. There are 2 tracks available to download from their page but the song here “Intro Demo” is a good introduction to their sound.

As well as this we have 2 more exclusive tracks from Synkro’s label mate at Midset, Indigo. After giving us 3 exclusives earlier on in the year when he played at The Deaf Institute with Lukid 2 more follow now with Shining Down and What time continuing with his techno influenced, echo chamber dub sound.

As well as all of this there are new pages for Omas and UnderBaud who contribute What Your Looking For and City Lights respectively here.

Before I sign off for now let me tell you about the latest mix available for download. This is a live set by Dan Nation from the back room of Mint Lounge on the Onra/Martyn show. If you missed it on the night, or weren’t there at all (tut, tut) now is your chance to get your ears around it so click the image below and crank your speakers y’all.
